Estate Auctions: Buying and Selling

How to Sell

Getting What It's Worth

Why is a 40 million dollar Vincent Van Gogh painting sold at auction? There are plenty of willing buyers willing to pay a good price. But the competitive nature of an auction will separate the strongest buyer from all others and result in the best possible price!

Free Verbal Auction Estimates

You can come to our gallery for free verbal auction estimates, with no obligation to sell. Please call us at (831) 335-9000 for an appointment or stop by our appraisal clinic.

Appraisal Clinics

Every Wednesday 11am-1pm

What if you cannot bring your property?

If your property is too bulky or fragile, an initial auction estimate can be given from a clear photograph, accompanied by dimensions, artist's signature or maker's mark, physical condition as well an any other pertinent details. This service is also free of charge. Our specialists may also visit you to carry out written valuations and discuss the promotional program we believe will maximize your results.

Charges

Our standard commission is 20% for lots selling above $2,501, 25% for lots selling between$1,001-$2,500, 30% for lots selling between $201-$1,000 and 40% for lots selling at $200 and below. There are no extra fees for photography, insurance or advertising expenses. Substantial consignments, estates, and collections will be negotiated. Pick up of items can be arranged anywhere at a reasonable cost.

Payment to Seller

Payment is made within 30 days of the sale.

How to Buy...

A Smart Way to Buy

Dealers make up the bulk of purchases at our sales. They know to expect a large selection of high quality antique furniture, paintings, carpets and other accessories at every auction. The public is welcome and can buy most items at wholesale, about half the price one would expect in a store! You can also be notified by email of individual items in specific categories coming up for bid with our PERSONAL REGISTRY.

If You Can Not Attend

Even if you can not be at the auction, buying is easy. Our monthly color brochures illustrate over 60 highlights from each upcoming auction. Our website also includes color images and condition reports for dozens of items from each sale. It is updated regularly as each sale approaches to include many late additions. Our catalog with estimates can be viewed on-line about one week prior to each auction as well.

Auction Estimates and Condition Reports

It is important that you preview or obtain a condition report for any items you may buy. If necessary we can send photos or email digital images as well. When attending, don't hesitate to ask us for information. We want you to be an informed buyer. Our catalog includes auction estimates which represent our best guess of what price range an item may sell. Telephone and absentee bids can be arranged by phone at (831) 335-9000.

Payment Terms

We accept cash, approved check, Visa and Mastercard. Credit card purchases must be made in person and we recommend establishing check approval ahead of time for larger purchases.

Shipping

Through our network of specialty shippers we can arrange delivery of the largest items at reasonable cost and in good time. A delivery of furniture will generally range from $300-$800 within the continental United States. For items meeting UPS or Federal Express restrictions shipping can be very economical. We are happy to obtain shipping estimates for you in advance.
